Location Shoot 1: Learning how to control light

Today in class Belinda took us out to the courtyard to take a few photographs.  We shot in manual mode.  We were asked to take nine photographs in total to demonstrate the effects of exposure, shutter speed and general use of lighting effects.

Exposure;
From left to right,
Shutter 1/80 Aperture 5.6, Shutter 1/80 Aperture 8, Shutter 1/80 Aperture 10

Shutter Speed;
From left to right,
Shutter 1/30 Aperture 10, Shutter 1/50 Aperture 10, Shutter 1/80 Aperture 10

Flat Lighting;

Shutter Speed 1/50 Aperture 10
Flat lighting is quite bright and flat upon the face, no shadows seen.

Back lit;

Shutter 1/60 Aperture 10
This image is demonstrating back lighting, the centre of the face appears darker then the sides as a result of the light beaming forward.

Side lighting;

Shutter 1/40 Aperture 8
This portrait is side lit, this is one of the most flattering types of lighting.  The light sweeps the side of the face usually leaving a light shadow to one side of the face.
