Assignment 2: Proposal for folio

I've come to believe that a photographer will in some way or another photograph the things they are most passionate about and love the most.

A portrait photographer will often photograph their family and friends getting the emotions that no other photographer would get.

A landscape photographer will photograph the locations that links to a memory of time for them.

Documentary is pouring out your heart and soul.  It is your way of showing your perspective on a time, event or society. Its being daring, you can not be afraid to cause conflict or discussion regarding your photographs.  There is no right or wrong, it is simply capturing that moment of time.

So now we've been asked to document something, providing a selection of images.  I think to myself what could I possibly feel strongly enough too want to share?.  Then I came to learn that it was my sister.

Just like most young woman, she was 34, married and a mother.  Late last year she found out that she was pregnant with her second child.  Excited for the new beginnings that 2012 would bring we soon realised that things don't end up as we hope for.  She lost the baby, the doctors called it a 'Molar Pregnancy' this affects 1 in 1,500 expecting mothers.  In time her blood count was rising and the doctors were concerned so they ran many tests.  On the 3rd of March my sister Lisa started chemo to fight cancer known as Gestational Trophoblastic Disease.  Lisa will have three rounds of chemo which involves needles one day and a variety of tablets the next.  On the 17th of April we will find out if continuing the treatment will be needed.

So there it is everything I feel will be portrayed in my images.  I couldn't think of anything that feels more to me then my sisters health at this point of time.  I have already started documenting this progress with Lisa shaving her head for the Leukaemia Foundation, I'm so proud of her for raising over $9,000.  I will be with her in the near future to document her individual journey through chemo.  I will photograph the physical difficulties, medication and illness and also her mental difficulties.

I'm so proud of my sister, I want everyone to be proud of her too.  I want to share her story.
